15th year celebration of AGiL's "Verschaftsruts" project
The city of Kassel recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Berufspatenproject, an initiative run by AGiL that focuses on supporting young individuals with migration or refugee backgrounds. The project, which has been in operation since 2008, was initially funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation and is now funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.
The Berufspatenproject aims to provide professional expertise and life experience to young individuals in their journey from school to work. Mentors in the project act as door openers, companions, and advisors, not only in professional development but also in personal growth. They support career orientation, help find internships or apprenticeships, and assist with job applications.
André Franke, CEO of AGiL, highlighted the importance of mentors in the project, stating, "Mentors in the Berufspatenproject are essential. They help young individuals navigate the job market, providing them with the necessary skills to succeed in interviews and beyond."
The project has seen significant growth over the years. Since 2010, around 3,300 job interviews have been practiced, and approximately 300 mentorships, or 'tandems', have been realised. The demand for job interview training in the Berufspatenproject is increasing, with 400 students participating this year alone.
In recognition of their tireless efforts, 45 volunteers were honoured at a small celebration held at the Sandershaus in Kassel. First Deputy District Administrator Silke Engler thanked the volunteers for their passion, life experience, openness, and empathy in fulfilling their duties in the Berufspatenproject.
Project leaders are seeking more volunteers, particularly those with a background in crafts or healthcare, to support the project with their engagement and professional experience. If you are an engaged professional willing to support students in their career orientation, consider volunteering for the Berufspatenproject. For more information, please contact project coordinator Brigitte Vogler at phone: 0561-1003 1275 or email: [email protected].
The Berufspatenproject has been a beacon of support for disadvantaged young individuals in Kassel for 15 years. As it continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to providing the necessary resources and guidance for these individuals to succeed in their professional lives.
