AI-powered platform GenerationAI aims to make AI a standard tool in the classroom, strengthening educators' capabilities.

The GenerationAI initiative, a collaborative effort by ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and several other organizations, is set to revolutionize the way artificial intelligence (AI) is approached in K-12 education. The goal is to normalize the conversation around AI and help everyone understand its potential benefits and challenges [1].

GenerationAI will serve as a hub of innovation and creativity, housing case studies, videos, frameworks, and other resources that educators can leverage to integrate AI into their teaching methods [2]. The initiative is backed by a substantial $25 million funding from Google.org [3].

The focus of GenerationAI is on equity, identity, agency, and community, aligning with its core principles [4]. It aims to close the knowledge gap surrounding AI in education and help teachers adapt AI in their classrooms, enabling students to understand their work better through AI and clarifying how AI can help and is being used in education [5].

GenerationAI will provide professional development courses for educators, helping them build their understanding of AI and its applications in the classroom [6]. Custom workshops will be offered for schools and districts to build AI understanding and integration strategies [2]. A significant aspect of the initiative is the emphasis on ethical and responsible AI use in education [7].

Tara Nattrass, Managing Director, Innovation Strategy, ISTE + ASCD, discussed the importance of GenerationAI and its goals, stating that the initiative aims to prepare educators worldwide for transformative learning experiences involving AI [1].

In addition, GenerationAI will build identity-affirming communities of practice for teachers, leaders, and district leaders, with educators contributing to the development of the initiative by participating in these communities and foundational learning experiences [8]. These communities will explore opportunities, risks, and challenges related to AI, and develop solutions and resources for the field [8].

The resources generated by GenerationAI will be used to support other educators in adapting AI in their classrooms, ultimately helping to reach the goal of educating 200,000 teachers on AI use within classrooms and reaching educators nationwide within the next three years [9].

By fostering a well-rounded AI conversation among educators, students, and administrators, GenerationAI hopes to make the classroom experience simpler and help teachers and students connect more effectively [10]. The initiative is part of ISTE's broader mission to ensure educational equity in AI access and advance AI literacy [2][1].
