AIIMS NORCET Selection Procedure and Examination Design: Essential Information You Should Familiarize Yourself With
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is set to conduct the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET 9) in 2025. The selection process for this important recruitment drive consists of three main stages: Prelims, Mains, and Document Verification.
Prelims Exam
The Prelims exam is an online, computer-based test (CBT) designed to screen candidates based on their nursing knowledge and general aptitude. The exam duration is 90 minutes, and it consists of 100 multiple-choice questions worth a total of 100 marks. The question types include General Knowledge, Aptitude, and questions related to the Nursing syllabus.
The Prelims exam is divided into five sections, each with 20 questions and lasting 18 minutes. The syllabus for this stage includes 80 questions from the Nursing course content and 20 questions on General Knowledge & Aptitude. It's important to note that there will be negative marking of 1/3 marks for each incorrect answer.
Mains Exam
The Mains exam is also an online, computer-based test (CBT) that lasts for 180 minutes (3 hours). It consists of 160 multiple-choice questions worth a total of 160 marks. The question types include image/video-based and priority-based questions from the Nursing syllabus.
The Mains exam is divided into four sections, each with 40 questions and lasting 45 minutes. The syllabus for this stage is the Nursing course syllabus, fully technical in nature.
Document Verification
After clearing both the Prelims and Mains exams, candidates undergo document verification to confirm their eligibility and credentials before being provisionally appointed as Nursing Officers.
This structure ensures a comprehensive assessment of candidates’ nursing knowledge, general aptitude, and professional suitability for the Nursing Officer roles at AIIMS.
Qualifying Marks
The qualifying marks for the Prelims exam differ for various categories: UR/EWS - 50 percentiles, OBC - 45 percentiles, SC & ST - 40 percentiles, and PWBD - 45 percentile for UR/EWS-PWBD, 40 percentile for OBC-PWBD, and 35 percentile for SC/ST-PWBD.
For the Mains exam, the qualifying marks are 50% for UR/EWS, 45% for OBC, and 40% for SC & ST.
The allocation of seats will be done in order of merit out of the choices opted by the aspirants in order of preference. The AIIMS NORCET merit list will be prepared based on performance in the CBT only. However, it's important to note that the Prelims exam scores will not be used for determining the final merit/rank for selection.
The AIIMS NORCET aims to fill 3500 vacancies for Nursing Officer posts. Only one round of seat allocation will be conducted in general.
