Almaty Mayor Meets German Council President to Boost Bilateral Cooperation
Newly appointed Mayor of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, met with German Federal Council President Anke Rehlinger on May 24, 2025, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in various sectors. The meeting focused on strengthening ties between Almaty and Germany, with a particular emphasis on modernization and international networking.
Satybaldy, aiming to develop Almaty into a dynamic hub of Central Asia, welcomed Rehlinger's visit. They discussed cultural-humanitarian relations, with institutions like the German-Kazakh University and the Goethe Institute playing a significant role in promoting intercultural dialogue. Both leaders expressed a strong desire to deepen the German-Kazakh partnership and set new impulses for cooperation.
The meeting also touched on healthcare cooperation. Plans were made for exchange programs and training opportunities for Kazakh medical professionals in Germany. The transfer of German experiences and standards in rehabilitation medicine was highlighted as a key area of focus. Rehlinger praised Almaty's commitment to improving healthcare services and expressed Germany's willingness to support these initiatives.
Germany's significant economic presence in Almaty was also discussed. Renowned corporations such as Siemens, Volkswagen, Metro Cash & Carry, Bayer, and Knauf were cited as examples of successful German investments in the city. With over 370 companies with German capital involvement active in Almaty, Germany stands as a key economic partner.
The meeting between Darkhan Satybaldy and Anke Rehlinger has set the stage for enhanced cooperation between Almaty and Germany in economy, healthcare, ecology, education, and culture. Specific plans for an exchange program in medical professionals between Almaty and renowned German university clinics are expected to be finalized in the near future, further strengthening the ties between the two cities.
