Anticipated fashion choices for 2025, as predicted by trend analysts.
Predictors in the stylish predictions business have been gathering data they think could predict trends for the coming months. WGSN, Heuritech, and Pinterest Trends analysts have been reviewing fashion shows, examining e-commerce data, and analyzing social media posts to anticipate what our wardrobes might look like in 2025.
From the unexpected reappearance of Gen Z-scorned straight-leg jeans to an increase in sophisticated loungewear, these experts have identified five trends they believe we'll be drawn to this year.
Picture-perfect Pyjamas
Wear your sleepwear to bed? Not anymore. Consumer trend forecaster WGSN anticipates stylish matching pyjamas to be in demand as travel outfits, beach covers, and more. Their e-commerce data reveals that sleepwear has been one of the strongest performing vacation shopping categories.
“It’s not because we spend more time in bed during vacations,” WGSN's head of women's wear, Sara Maggioni, wrote via email to CNN. “But because sleepwear items are now seen as highly versatile and practical items for vacationers... It’s this versatility that makes them a winning item in a world where luggage fees are increasing.” The summer saw "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner spotted lounging poolside in the French Riviera wearing blue and white striped pyjamas, while model Joan Smalls wore black and white ones out in Milan.
Bag Charming
It appears we'll be embracing the Birkin method in 2025, according to Jane Collins, head of footwear and accessories for WGSN. The rising trend of bag charms reflects our current fascination with personal expression and exclusivity.
“The allure of this small yet powerful accessory comes from its customization and gifting possibilities, and its appeal to various demographics,” Collins wrote in an email to CNN. WGSN's runway data showed a 5.6% increase in bag charms for Spring-Summer 2025, adorning the runways of Stella McCartney, Fendi, and Versace. For inspiration, look no further than Dua Lipa or Lily Allen's intricately embellished Hermès Birkin bags.
A Suede Affair
AI forecaster Heuritech, which uses machine learning to analyze over a million social media posts daily to track wearer preferences, predicts suede as its top fabric to watch in 2025.
“Suede saw a 128% growth on Instagram towards the end of 2024,” Heuritech fashion analyst Frida Tordhag told CNN in a phone interview. “This signals its continued influence into 2025, especially as we approach the spring season, when we should expect a surge in the boho-chic trend, which is all about romance and femininity.” Expect the pillars of boho-chic – lace, chiffon, and relaxed silhouettes – to return, with the Olsen twins' early 2000s style acting as inspiration.
The Revival of Skinny Jeans
If you're still holding on to your slim-fitting denim jeans, now might be the time to reignite that relationship.
“We expect to see a slow and gradual resurgence of the skinny jean in 2025,” said WGSN's senior denim strategist Susie Draffan. “We're definitely in the experimentation phase here, but this season saw skinny jeans increasing on the Spring-Summer 2025 catwalks for the first time in years.”
Draffan highlights brands like Coach, Diesel, Off-White, and Maison Margiela as pioneering this revival, as well as a cultural reunion with the 2010s spirit packaged as "indie sleaze."
“Don't get too carried away,” she cautioned. “It's crucial to keep in mind that this data uptick is from a modest base. Wide-leg jeans remain the preferred cut by a significant margin.”
Cherry Delight
While Pantone named mocha mousse brown as 2025's color of the year, Pinterest Trends have a different perspective. According to Pinterest's upcoming trend report, "cherry red" is already taking centre stage on zoomers' and millennials' moodboards. The search terms "cherry vibe" and "dark cherry red" saw an increase of 325% and 235% respectively, this year. Emily in Paris star Lily Collins was spotted donning a mock-croc cherry red Nina Ricci skirt suit during the show's press tour, while Tom Holland and Zendaya were seen coordinating the shade in New York.
In alignment with Pinterest Trends, we might see a shift towards wearing cherry red as a popular color in wardrobes, with search terms like "cherry vibe" and "dark cherry red" increasing significantly.
Fashion lovers may also find themselves gravitating towards more versatile pyjama sets, as they become increasingly popular for travel outfits and beach covers, following the trend set by celebrities such as Sophie Turner and Joan Smalls.
