Artificial Intelligence University of Bangladesh (AIUB) honored as the first Asian institution to be highlighted in the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Signatory Observatories for Schools (SOS) limelight.
The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has been making significant strides in promoting sustainability, climate justice, and ethical practices, with the AIUB Social Welfare Club - Shomoy (ASC) playing a pivotal role. Operating under the guidance of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the club has led numerous initiatives that reflect community care, social responsibility, and a global outlook.
One of the club's most notable initiatives was the Winter Clothing Drive 2024-25, which collected and distributed winter clothing to those in need during colder months. This campaign, a testament to the club's commitment to community support, was followed by the "Oder Eid, Amader Khushi" Campaign, an annual initiative that provides food, clothing, and joy to underprivileged children during Eid.
The ASC is also involved in sustainability-related events and discussions, contributing to education and awareness on sustainable development topics. These efforts are part of AIUB's broader commitment to social impact and ethical practices in the university community.
The club's dedication to environmental and social justice causes has not gone unnoticed. AIUB was recently recognised in the Spotlight segment initiated by the International Association of Universities (IAU) and Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK). This recognition is part of the Responsible Futures International (RFI) 2024-25 programme, which highlights institutions embedding sustainability, climate justice, and ethical practices into higher education.
AIUB's participation in the RFI programme underscores its global outlook and its role as a responsible higher education institution. The university's focus on sustainability and social equity is evident in its initiatives, which reflect its commitment to fostering socially conscious students who engage meaningfully with their communities.
Since its inception in 2009, the ASC has led numerous initiatives supporting underprivileged communities across Bangladesh. The club has also conducted awareness programmes focused on hygiene, mental health, and environmental care. During times of crisis, such as floods, the ASC has provided emergency relief efforts.
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of AIUB facilitated the university's participation in the RFI programme, ensuring that AIUB's efforts in the sphere of sustainability and social justice are recognised on a global scale. The AIUB Social Welfare Club - Shomoy (ASC) continues to make a difference, contributing to AIUB's ongoing efforts in supporting underprivileged communities across Bangladesh.
The AIUB Social Welfare Club - Shomoy (ASC) extends its commitment to education and self-development by raising awareness on sustainable development topics and conducting initiatives that foster socially conscious students. This dedication to sustainability and social justice has earned the club global recognition through the Responsible Futures International (RFI) 2024-25 programme.
