Towards Shattering Stereotypes: A Brave Delhi University Student Speaks Out

It's Bisma Fareed, the maverick Delhi University college topper, who used her platform to share her struggles with landing an internship, and now she's addressing the societal prejudices that surfaced after her viral post. Bisma, currently pursuing her English honours from Delhi's prestigious Hansraj College, recently gained attention as the CBSE declared Class 12 results.

Reacting to the insights she garnered from the feedback on LinkedIn, Bisma penned another candid post to address both supporters and sceptics. "Cheers for making me feel like a deserving loser," she wrote.

In her post, Bisma remembered how her candid post went viral, generating zillions of motivational messages, along with a slew of stereotypical questions. Among the comments she received were queries like, "Why did you take up Arts if you're a topper?" and "BA walon ko kaun job deta hai?" (Who gives jobs to BA students?).

Addressing the derisive comments, Bisma wrote, "Shoutout to the 'doctors, engineers, and B.Tech. wales' for perpetuating the existing, deeply ingrained societal prejudices!"

"Thanks a ton for making every Arts wala student feel inferior...As if only science, B.Tech, and the so-called 'bade courses' bring about significant contributions," she added.

The DU student then turned more serious, posing a question about the systemic ignorance towards Arts students. "If BA and Arts courses hold no worth, then why do we have an education system that offers them? To fool us? To provide folks with someone to ridicule?" she wrote.

"I've got a solution to this problem. Let's stop offering BA courses and scrape off humanities. That way, we'll force everyone to take up Science and 'bade courses,' and we won't have to bother with any of these Arts rubbish," she added, with a touch of sarcasm.

Tackling Preconceived Notions

It's important to note that the Arts stream is a choice, not a fallback. Not everyone is interested in numbers, anatomy, or coding; some prefer free thinking and creative expression. Arts students develop critical thinking, empathy, and problem-solving skills that are crucial in various industries. Creativity and innovation are rooted in the Arts, leading to groundbreaking ideas and solutions. The world needs diverse perspectives, and Arts students bring unique viewpoints to the table.

Bisma concluded her post by urging fellow Arts students to never let anyone belittle their worth. "Your choice of stream matters, and your contributions are invaluable," she wrote.

"For those who think they're superior, recall: the world needs a blend of skills, perspectives, and creativity. Let's embrace diversity and promote inclusivity in education and beyond!" she added.

Since being posted, Bisma's messages have attracted a plethora of comments, revealing that she's not alone in encountering such prejudices.

One user acknowledged, "As an Arts student, I've faced similar hardships. But no course or stream is insignificant. Each demands hard work and dedication."

Another shared, "I aced coding and robotics, but I chose design, where my passion lies. It's not what you can do; it's what you want to do."

A third user commented, "There's no such thing as a big or small course. Each field has its own demands. What matters most is finding the right path that aligns with your interests and degree."

Education and self-development: Bisma's candid posts highlight the need for breaking societal prejudices that surrounding the Arts stream, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives and creative expression in various industries.

General news: The DU student's messages have resonated with many Arts students who face similar challenges, sparking conversations about the value of every stream and field in shaping individual paths and contributions.
