Beechwood High School Graduate Cole Howard Accepted into U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Cole Howard, a standout student and athlete from Beechwood High School, has achieved a significant milestone in his academic and athletic career. He has been accepted into the prestigious U.S. Coast Guard Academy's Class of 2029.

Howard's acceptance into the academy is a testament to his hard work and dedication. Out of the 250 cadets who began training in mid-2025 for the Class of 2029, he is one of only three Kentuckians to be accepted. His impressive academic record, which includes a GPA of 4.4 and a remarkable score of 35 on his ACT exam, undoubtedly played a crucial role in his acceptance.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is renowned for its rigorous admissions process, making Howard's achievement even more noteworthy. The academy's acceptance rate is generally competitive but not extremely low, with sources suggesting it to be around 50%.

In addition to his academic prowess, Howard is also a talented athlete. He was named to the Cincinnati Enquirer's 1st team all NKY/Indiana and was recognised as 1st team All Northern Kentucky Division 3. He was also recognised by the NKFCA as 1st team All Northern Kentucky (All Divisions). Upon joining the academy, he will continue his football career, having been a standout player at Beechwood High School.

Upon graduation from the Coast Guard Academy, Howard will be commissioned as an Ensign, an officer rank equivalent to a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army, Airforce, and Marine Corp. His intended major at the academy is Marine and Environmental Science, with plans to attend a graduate program in Engineering.

After reporting for the academy's "Swab Summer" on June 30, a seven-week intensive training program for incoming cadets, Howard will start football practice with The Bears football team and begin taking classes at the Coast Guard Academy.

While the academy's official news and announcements focus on general class arrivals and institutional updates, with no mention of individual cadets by name beyond athletic teams, Howard's achievements at Beechwood High School are a testament to his potential at the academy.
