BOCES Coordinator Laurie Guyon Wins Award for Innovative Webinar Use

Laurie Guyon, coordinator for Model Schools at Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES, has embraced webinars as a powerful tool for staff training and communication since the pandemic began. She has hosted over 400 webinars, earning recognition for her innovative use of technology.

Guyon combines webinars with self-paced courses, ensuring staff receive practical, hands-on experience alongside theoretical learning. She favours interactive platforms like Nearpod, allowing real-time feedback and engagement.

Webinars have seen increased attendance and acceptance since March 2020. Guyon incorporates formative assessments and hands-on practice during sessions to boost learning effectiveness. Participants, including staff and parents, have grown comfortable using various platforms and apps for these webinars.

Guyon's efforts have not gone unnoticed. Before the pandemic, she was recognised by the New York State Education Department. More recently, she received the Best Overall Implementation of Technology award at Tech & Learning's Innovative Leadership Awards in Boston. Her innovative use of webinars continues to enhance learning and communication within her district.
