Refreshed and Revitalized Article:
Hey there! Let's dive into an engaging tale from May 2025, featuring a 2-day training extravaganza orchestrated by our trusty online hub. The event aimed to bolster the skills of 30 enthusiastic individuals—seven of whom were ladies—representing 15 diverse Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Cambodia. The training was generously financed by the EU project, "Strengthening CSO Capabilities for Sustainable Freshwater Fisheries in Cambodia," and possibly, the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), though the specifics are a bit muddy.

So, what did they learn, you ask? Well, the primary objective was to beef up CSO capacity in four key areas:
- Grasping the fundamental nuts and bolts of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in project management
- Honing in on the concept of Results-Based Management (RBM) and its significance to report writing
- Distinguishing between activity-based and results-based reports
- Practicing results-based reporting through interactive exercises and real-world case studies
More than a few familiar faces graced the training, including the Culture and Environment Preservation Association (CEPA), the Fisheries Action Coalition Team (FACT), the 3S Rivers Protection Network (3SPN), Trailblazer Cambodia Organization (TCO), Forest and Livelihood Organization (FLO), Nature Life Cambodia, Fishing Cat Ecological Enterprise Co., Ltd., Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT), My Village, Action for Development Cambodia (AFD), Indigenous Youth Association (IYA), Sansom Mlup Prey, Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP), and other CSOs.
Participants weren't shy about sharing their thoughts and ideas, actively engaging in lively discussions. The post-training evaluation revealed a marked improvement in their understanding—an impressive leap from an average of 8 out of 21 to 16 out of 21!
Here's a quick peek at the results:
- Prior to the training: 77% of participants scored poorly or very poorly.
- Post-training: 63% demonstrated a good or very good understanding, while 37% still had a moderate to limited understanding. However, that's to be expected when starting from such a low position.
With newfound practical skills and knowledge, CSO staff are primed to conquer their projects with confidence! To ensure they keep up the good work, participants recommended follow-ups, mentoring, advanced courses, peer-to-peer learning, continuous technical support, and regular assessments.
