Californian authorities fatally shot an Indian technology professional identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin.

Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old software professional from Mahabubnagar, Telangana, lost his life in a tragic incident on September 3, 2025, in Santa Clara, California, USA. The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked concerns and demands for accountability from both local and international communities.

The incident began with a 911 call reporting a stabbing inside Nizamuddin's residence. Police responded to the scene, leading to an 'officer-involved shooting.' According to the family, Nizamuddin dialed 911 seeking help before the shooting occurred.

Nizamuddin was reportedly armed with a knife and was allegedly pinning down his injured roommate at the time of the police arrival. His roommate survived the incident and is currently recovering in the hospital.

The Santa Clara Police Department and the county's District Attorney's Office are conducting a joint inquiry into the shooting. The California Attorney General's Office and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Nizamuddin's killing by US police in Santa Clara.

Prior to his death, Nizamuddin had built a successful career in California's technology sector after moving to the United States in 2016. He had pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science at a Florida university before securing employment in Santa Clara. He was reportedly promoted shortly before his death.

Nizamuddin's family has accused authorities of racial discrimination and has demanded a transparent investigation into the events that unfolded that night. They have also cited his social media posts as evidence of sustained harassment in the US.

Community leaders in Hyderabad have expressed their concerns about racial hatred, discrimination, harassment, and obstruction of justice in the incident. They have called on New Delhi to pursue the matter with Washington. Nizamuddin's relatives have appealed to India's Ministry of External Affairs to assist in repatriating his body.

The investigation into the shooting remains 'active and open.' The circumstances of Nizamuddin's death demand accountability, according to community leaders in Hyderabad. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the need for justice and equality in all communities, regardless of location or background.
