Certified Fair Trade Symbol
Heidenoldendorf Primary School in Detmold has achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to fair trade and sustainability, as it has been officially certified as a Fairtrade School by Fairtrade Germany. The certification, which recognizes the school's long-standing dedication to fair trade and sustainability, was the result of the entire school community's continuous efforts. Teacher Franziska Altmann, who initiated and led the project, was instrumental in securing the certification. In her speech at the ceremonial presentation, Altmann emphasized that Fairtrade means responsibility for a fairer world, sustainable action, and conscious consumption. She thanked everyone involved, including students, staff, the Fairtrade Detmold steering group, representatives of the city portal, and Michael Duchting from Fairtrade Schools Germany, as well as Mayor Wolfgang Schriegel. The school celebrated the achievement with various events, including a clothing exchange action that focused on environmental protection and social responsibility, and food stands offering fair-trade products, providing insights into sustainable consumption. The 'Fairtrade Football Cup' also highlighted sportsmanship and conscious resource use. Principal Katrin Freitag expressed pride in her school's commitment, creativity, and unity. She noted that the school lives these values every day, not just on the day of the certification. The goal is to continue anchoring sustainability in daily school life and strengthening awareness of global interconnections among young people. Heidenoldendorf Primary School is the only public secondary school in Detmold to hold the Fairtrade certification, making it a strong signal for future-oriented education. The school's Fairtrade certification demonstrates a strong commitment to global responsibility and solidarity in education, and sets a strong example for other schools to follow.
