Charity Organization, NRSF, Announces Drive2Life Public Service Announcement (PSA) Competition with a $2,000 Incentive
The National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF) is once again inviting teens across the nation to make a difference on the roads and highways. The foundation, in collaboration with the American Driver & Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA), is launching its 15th annual Drive2Life PSA Contest.
The contest, which opens on January 15, 2023, and closes on March 25, 2024, invites submissions for a TV PSA encouraging passengers to SPEAK UP when in a vehicle being driven unsafely. The contest is open to all teens nationwide.
The winner of the contest will receive a $2,000 prize and a chance to work with an Emmy Award-winning producer. Two runners-up in each grade category (grades 6-8 and grades 9-12) will each receive $500. The winner's PSA will air nationwide on more than 170 TV stations on "Teen Kids News" next May during Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.
Michelle Anderson, a representative from the National Road Safety Foundation, stated that many lives might have been saved if a passenger had insisted that the driver slow down, stop texting, or not drive impaired. Nearly 6,300 passengers died in traffic crashes in 2020, accounting for about 15% of all traffic fatalities nationwide.
The NRSF, a non-profit organization that has been creating driver education and safe driving programs for over 60 years, believes creative messages from young people that encourage passengers to speak up can and will make a difference.
Entries will be judged by NRSF staff and a blue-ribbon panel of driver education teachers from ADTSEA. The person who annually organizes the Drive2Life PSA Contest and leads the blue-ribbon panel judging entries is not publicly specified.
The National Road Safety Foundation's website (www.nrsf.org/contests/drive2life) provides information about the contest, entry form, prize details, and winning videos from past years. The foundation also offers its programs and materials for free at www.nrsf.org, including curriculum materials for teachers and parents to discuss traffic safety with teens.
ADTSEA, which represents driver education teachers and instructors nationally, develops driver education materials, issues credentials to driver ed instructors, hosts conferences, and provides consulting services for driving schools. The NRSF sponsors national contests for teens in partnership with SADD and FCCLA and regional contests partnering with auto shows in Chicago and Detroit.
Teachers of the winner and runners-up will each receive a $100 gift card. The NRSF is committed to making a difference in road safety and believes that the creative voices of young people are crucial in achieving this goal. So, get creative and submit your entry today!
