Citizen Discusses Governance under Taliban Regime in Afghanistan

After four decades of conflict, Afghanistan is currently experiencing a period of relative stability and low crime rates compared to its tumultuous past. This newfound peace has been noted by both locals and tourists, with many reporting a high level of security in the war-torn country.

One of the most significant changes in Afghanistan can be seen in the effective management of funds. The government, currently led by the Taliban, has made strides in ensuring that resources are being utilised more efficiently.

However, the country still faces numerous challenges. For instance, the national currency, the afghani, has strengthened, with the dollar decreasing from 90 to 70 afghanis. Yet, the flow of external aid to Afghanistan has decreased, posing a potential threat to the country's economic recovery.

In terms of social changes, women in Afghanistan are dressing differently compared to the past. Yet, their educational opportunities remain limited. Currently, women's education is restricted to the sixth grade. A promise has been made to allow girls into regular schools at a later time, although the specifics of this plan remain unclear.

It's important to note that the Taliban, who took power on August 15, 2021, when they entered Kabul and overthrew the previous government, currently rule Afghanistan. However, most countries, including Germany, do not recognise the Taliban as the politically legitimate government of Afghanistan.

As Afghanistan navigates this new chapter, it continues to grapple with the complexities of rebuilding a nation while balancing the need for stability with respecting the rights and opportunities of its citizens. The road ahead may be challenging, but the promise of progress remains a beacon of hope for many.
