Classroom Application of Apps: Enhancing Representative Expertise

In a recent visit to the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium in Gundelfingen, IT entrepreneur Gudrun Töpfer shared her insights with a class of eager students via a digital whiteboard. The visit was part of the Life-Teach-Us project, a programme that aims to bring real-world experience and practical knowledge into schools.

The students listened attentively as Töpfer discussed her work, including her volunteer work with a rescue dog unit and her plans to develop an AI tool to help companies retain the knowledge of departing employees. One student mentioned his grandmother's skepticism about AI, sparking a thoughtful discussion about the role of technology in our lives.

Töpfer, who is one of approximately 12,000 "Life Teachers" nationwide, is one of 1,000 experts in the Baden-Württemberg region using this service. Simone Staritz, the teacher at Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, believes experts greatly enrich her teaching with their authentic insights. "Experts, according to Simone Staritz, cannot replace teachers, even in substitute lessons," she said.

Staritz regularly books experts for her classes, and can do so at short notice. "I can often get a confirmation within minutes," she said. Another student, Levi, found it fascinating to learn about others' professions, particularly Töpfer's work as an IT entrepreneur.

The founder of the "Life Teacher Us" project deployed in Baden-Württemberg is not identified in the provided search results, and no information about her industry is available. However, the project is funded solely through donations and contributions, making it a valuable resource for schools across the region.

Volunteers for the Life Teachers program receive training and are added to the expert pool. Töpfer, for example, has visited schools in person when possible, but can also fit a 45-minute lesson into her workday, regardless of the class's location.

Another student asked if the AI tool Töpfer is developing will be accessible to everyone. Töpfer, who started her business easily, encouraged the students to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams. Isabelle, a student in the class, was surprised by this, expressing her admiration for Töpfer's success.

In all, Töpfer's visit was a valuable learning experience for the students, providing them with a glimpse into the world of IT entrepreneurship and the importance of real-world experience in education.
