For over a decade, numerous studies and individual experiences show the effect of cannabis on various health conditions. Recently, it's been found to excel in an area where only a few prescription medications do, making it a promising treatment.

In 2002, I was diagnosed with the painful condition known as trigeminal neuralgia. This ailment causes unpredictable, electric-like jolts of pain throughout the head and jaw.

For years, I managed the condition with conventional medication, but in 2014, a friend suggested I try CBD oil. My initial response—marijuana? But with time, I discovered the miracle drug's potential to alleviate the pain that my medication could not touch.

Fast forward to today, I find myself advocating for cannabis as medicine once more. While the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has re-classified medical marijuana from a highly addictive substance, there is still a stigma surrounding its use. Moreover, numerous studies and reports demonstrate that cannabis can aid individuals suffering from various conditions, including Lyme disease, hypertension, and insomnia, among others.

Research has shown that cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive component of cannabis, can kill antibiotic-resistant bacteria and provide relief from arthritis pain. A recent study from Australia further confirms the positive impact of medicinal cannabis on a patient's quality of life, demonstrating that the improvements observed in pain, anxiety, depression, sleep, and motor function were maintained over a 12-month period.

Since the introduction of medical cannabis in Australia in 2016, over a million Australians have been prescribed it for chronic health conditions. Researchers from Australian medical schools conducted a study to assess the overall health-related quality of life (HRQL) in a sample of patients prescribed medicinal cannabis oil. Their findings revealed that improvements in HRQL, as well as a reduction in fatigue and sleep disturbances, were sustained throughout the 12-month period, with the improvements deemed both statistically significant and clinically meaningful.

Despite the promising results of the study, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional before trying medicinal cannabis or CBD products, as they may interact with other medications. Additionally, it's vital to be cautious when trying a new product, as some CBD products have been found to contain higher levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) than indicated on the label.

Some preliminary studies suggest benefits of CBD in reducing blood pressure and addressing anxiety and autism spectrum disorder symptoms. However, more clinical trials are necessary to establish its efficacy and safety for various health conditions.

In conclusion, while CBD oil shows promise for certain conditions, such as anxiety and chronic pain, more comprehensive clinical trials are needed to determine its effectiveness for other conditions, such as trigeminal neuralgia, Lyme disease, hypertension, chronic insomnia, and arthritis.
