The Be-MoVe project, a real-lab initiative funded by the "MobilitätWerkStadt 2025" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Research (BMBF), is taking strides to enhance pedestrian and cycling traffic, particularly on school routes.

As part of the action plan for the 2023 school route checks, initiated by the Be-MoVe project, the school street in Elbestraße is being tested. In Bergerhausen, Siegstraße will also become a one-way street as part of this trial.

The school streets will be closed to traffic from 7:30 to 8:30 AM on weekdays, but existing parent pick-up/drop-off points will continue to be used. Residents can still drive through the school streets. These temporary school streets are being tested in Bergerhausen (Elbestraße at the Grundschule Am Krausen Bäumchen) and Katernberg (Büchelsloh at the Kantschule).

The school route checks, conducted by the planning office bueffee GbR from Wuppertal, are designed to help schools and kindergartens identify local hazard spots, develop solutions, and make the routes safer. On-site visits confirmed the need for action, and the establishment of a school street is now being tested as a possible measure in Kantschule, following a letter from the parents' association of the Kantschule highlighting the critical traffic situation in Bucheloh.

More information about the Be-MoVe project and school route checks can be found on [www.ourwebsite/Be-Move]. For detailed information regarding the trial, you can refer to the document 1104/2025/6.

The aim of the Be-MoVe project is to make the school route safer, encourage more children to walk, cycle, or scoot to school, and promote health, self-confidence, and sustainability. The trial for the school streets will run for a total of one year, with an evaluation after the first six months.

It is important to note that the planning of the school bus route closures in Bergerhausen and Katernberg belongs to the local public transport authority or city planning department responsible for traffic and transportation in those districts.

The Press and Communications Office of our city portal published this information. The Be-MoVe project is conducted by the planning office bueffee GbR from Wuppertal, as part of the Be-MoVe project of the Green Capital Agency (GHA) of our city portal.
