UC San Diego Researchers and Students Gain Access to Exclusive Research Vessels

A unique opportunity is available for students, faculty, and staff at UC San Diego to participate in research projects aboard two research vessels: R/V Roger Revelle and R/V Sally Ride. The Program invites proposals from UC San Diego researchers for these projects.

However, access to two other vessels, R/V Robert Gordon Sproul and R/V Bob and Betty Beyster, is limited exclusively to UC San Diego's academic community. The chief scientist or project leader on board R/V Bob and Betty Beyster is responsible for ensuring that only students, faculty, and staff from UC San Diego are allowed to partake in projects aboard this vessel.

It is worth noting that R/V Bob and Betty Beyster is not the same vessel as R/V Roger Revelle or R/V Sally Ride. The Program also has additional vessels available for research projects, although the specifics are not provided in the information given.

R/V Robert Gordon Sproul is not mentioned in this article as being involved in projects for any other program. Similarly, R/V Bob and Betty Beyster is not mentioned as being a part of the Program's fleet or being involved in projects for any other program.

While UC San Diego researchers have the opportunity to submit proposals for projects aboard R/V Roger Revelle and R/V Sally Ride, faculty, staff, and students from any University of California campus are invited to do so. This opens up a broader network of researchers and opportunities for collaboration within the University of California system.

This exclusive access to research vessels provides UC San Diego's academic community with a valuable resource for advancing marine research and fostering innovation. The specifics of the Program and the projects aboard the vessels remain to be seen, but the potential for groundbreaking discoveries is certainly within reach.
