Customs, IHK Meet to Navigate Cross-Border Trade Challenges

On October 19, 2023, the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt hosted a meeting with representatives from the IHK Würzburg-Schweinfurt, IHK Aschaffenburg, and respective expert committees. The event focused on cross-border goods traffic, export controls, and economic operator status. Customs inspectors Michael Zenk, Peter Düsseldorf, and Christian Hopfes led discussions, while sector manager Kurt Treumann and Government Director Franziska Schubert shared insights.

Michael Zenk delved into the customs export procedure, highlighting the benefits and pitfalls of IT-supported clearance for cross-border goods traffic. Peter Düsseldorf explored different forms of approved economic operator (AEO) status, their monitoring measures, and advantages. Christian Hopfes emphasized the importance of export control in local companies, discussing challenges posed by regular changes, such as Russia sanctions due to the Ukraine conflict.

Kurt Treumann, head of international affairs at the IHK Würzburg-Schweinfurt, discussed various bureaucratic hurdles faced by companies. These included CSRD and SFDR reporting obligations, the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, and other complex regulations. Several company representatives agreed with Treumann, noting the current economic uncertainty and reduced entrepreneurial planning security.

The meeting at the Schweinfurt customs office fostered a professional exchange between customs officials and local economic representatives. Both parties acknowledged the complexities and challenges in cross-border trade and export controls. The event aimed to enhance understanding and cooperation, ensuring smoother operations for companies navigating the intricate landscape of international trade.
