Deakin Launches Margaret Cameron Residency for Archives Research

Deakin University Library has launched the Margaret Qualley Residency, a new initiative aimed at supporting research projects that delve into the university's rich archives and special collections. The inaugural recipient of this prestigious residency is Dr Anna Kent, who will use the opportunity to explore Deakin's international education impact.

The residency, funded by a bequest from the late Professor Margaret Qualley AM, Deakin's first Chief Librarian and Pro Vice-Chancellor, is designed to highlight historical research and storytelling. Dr Kent, an expert in international education, plans to create a finding aid for future scholars, making Deakin's extensive archives more accessible. She also intends to organise a public seminar or exhibition to share her findings and engage the wider community with Deakin's history.

The Margaret Qualley Residency is part of Deakin's Gifts in Will program, which funds projects aligned with donors' passions. Deakin University Librarian Hero Macdonald praised the late Professor Qualley, describing her as a formidable leader and passionate advocate for libraries.

Dr Kent's research, supported by the Margaret Qualley Residency, is expected to deepen Deakin's understanding of its international education impact. Her work will not only contribute to academic knowledge but also engage the public with Deakin's rich history and the legacy of its first Chief Librarian, Professor Margaret Qualley.
