In a remarkable tenure spanning over a decade, Adele Naude Santos, a practicing architect and professor at MIT, has left an indelible mark on the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her tenure as dean will officially end on June 30, 2023.

Upon her arrival at MIT, Santos outlined three goals for her deanship: consolidating the School's six locations, making crucial hires and promotions, and increasing the School's overall visibility. Under her leadership, SA+P has achieved these objectives and more.

One of the most significant achievements during Santos' tenure has been the consolidation of the School's six locations. This consolidation has streamlined operations and fostered a more cohesive community within SA+P.

Santos' deanship has also seen a remarkable growth in applications for SA+P's programmes. The Master's Program in the Media Lab's Media Arts and Sciences program has more than doubled since 2004, with applications for the Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture Studies, Master in City Planning, and the Master's Program in the Media Lab's Media Arts and Sciences program all experiencing similar increases.

Santos' leadership has not been limited to consolidation and growth. She has also made crucial hires and promotions during her deanship, strengthening the School's faculty and research capabilities. Her efforts towards increasing the School's visibility have also been successful, with SA+P gaining recognition as a leading institution in its field.

As Santos steps down from her role as dean, she hands over the reins to Nader Tehrani, who will take office on January 1, 2015. Tehrani, also a professor at MIT, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, and is well-positioned to build upon the foundations laid by Santos during her tenure.

In conclusion, Adele Naude Santos' tenure as dean of MIT's School of Architecture and Planning has been marked by significant growth, consolidation, and increased visibility. Her contributions to the School will undoubtedly have a lasting impact, and she leaves behind a strong legacy for her successor to build upon.
