Durham University's Professors in Practice initiative, now in its seventh year, connects students with industry experts. The programme, coordinated by Dr. Joanna Berry, brings eminent professionals into the classroom to supplement academic learning with real-world insights. The recent Professors in Practice Celebration Event, organized by Dr. Berry, highlighted the initiative's impact on sustainability discussions.

The Professors in Practice initiative, led by Dr. Kevin Lin, Professor of Translation Practice, has been running since 2015. It involves distinguished individuals nominated by faculties and approved by the Provost. These professionals, known as Professors in Practice, share their expertise with students through mentoring, guest speaking, and industry insights.

Durham University Business School hosts several Professors in Practice. Emma Edhem, an Alderman in the City of London Corporation, contributes to Economics. Lucian Hudson, Durham's Director of Advancement, Marketing and Communications, shares insights on Leadership and Organisations. Other notable contributors include Habib Ahmed and Mehmet Asutay, both professors of finance, who focus on Islamic law, finance, and Middle Eastern economic studies.
