In the heart of Benin city, the capital of Edo state in southern Nigeria, a new chapter in technological development is about to be written. The Edo Tech Park, a project spearheaded by Governor Godwin Obaseki, aims to turn Edo into a global tech hub by 2025.

The partnership between the state government and Decagon, a Lagos-based startup, will see the training of 15,000 software engineering talents in Edo state over the next six years. Chika Nwobi, the founder and CEO of Decagon, has been tasked with this transformative mission. With a 0.5% acceptance rate into its cohorts and a 100% placement rate for graduating developers, Decagon brings a wealth of technical and organizational expertise to the table.

The Edo Tech Park, located in the growing tech ecosystem of Benin city, is part of Governor Obaseki's vision to develop a globally competitive digital economy. The state government will provide the physical infrastructure, while Decagon will bring the know-how.

The official launch of the Edo Tech Park was marked by the signing of a commemorative plaque. The event, which was sponsored by the Edo state government, attracted a host of dignitaries and tech enthusiasts. Governor Obaseki described the tech park as a "quantum leap" for Edo state.

Benin city, globally renowned for its rich economic and cultural heritage, is set to add a new feather to its cap. The presence of a full-blown tech park could potentially challenge Lagos's lead in technological development. Edo state, which has lagged behind in this area despite its potential, is poised for a significant turnaround.

The Edo Tech Park aims to become a self-sustaining tech campus, training developers through an intensive 6-month program. Its graduates will have the opportunity to work remotely for global tech companies. Moreover, the project is expected to create 120,000 jobs and boost Edo's internally generated revenue.

The Yaba ecosystem of independent tech hubs and developer communities in Lagos is being complemented by government efforts. The Edo Innovation Hub in Benin city is a testament to this. Chika Nwobi, the driving force behind both Decagon and the Edo Tech Park, aims to train 10,000 developers in 10 years, transforming Edo into a technology paradise.

As the Edo Tech Park takes shape, the future of technological development in Edo state looks bright. With its rich history and promising tech ecosystem, Benin city is set to become a beacon of innovation in Nigeria.
