Educational Loans Surge in Southern Russia, Topping 2.2 Billion Rubles in August 2025

In southern Russia, educational loans have seen a significant surge in August 2025. The total volume issued in the region reached 2.2 billion rubles, more than double the amount from the same period last year.

The Donetsk People's Republic alone issued 3.6 million rubles in educational loans in August, a substantial increase from the previous year. This trend is not limited to younger students; interest in these student loans has also doubled among older students, with the average borrower being under 25.

The southern regions and the North Caucasus have been particularly active. Over 10,700 students from these areas took out educational loans with state support in the first eight months of 2025, a nearly 50% increase from the same period last year. In July and August alone, the volume of educational loans issued in these regions increased by more than 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2024.

Stavropol Krai issued 140 million rubles in educational loans to 674 students, while Rostov Oblast provided 126 million rubles to 632 students. Krasnodar Krai was even more generous, granting nearly 3,000 people a total of 588 million rubles in educational loans before the start of the new academic year.

The Moscow region led the way in state-supported educational loans, recording the highest revenue in Russia in 2025. Overall, the total volume of educational loans issued in southern Russia in the first eight months of 2025 was 1.5 times more than the same period in 2024. With over 8,000 students admitted to top universities and colleges, these educational loans are clearly making a significant impact on higher education in the region.
