Emerging Mobility Ventures in Newlab Situated at Brooklyn Navy Yard

In the heart of New York City, during Climate Week, URBAN-X, the technology startup platform by MINI, unveiled its fifteenth cohort of startups focused on addressing climate issues. This year's cohort, based at URBAN-X's headquarters at Newlab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, is primarily focused on climate tech innovations targeting urban sustainability, with an emphasis on mobility and energy transition.

Mobility Solutions

The mobility area sees the development of new modes of transportation that reduce reliance on fossil fuels, improve urban transit efficiency, or integrate clean energy technologies into vehicle design and operation. For instance, Wild Energy develops a self-propelled electric trailer platform to significantly boost EV towing range and gas vehicle miles per gallon when towing.

Another mobility solution comes from OneSix Energy, which pioneers a novel process for the generation of green hydrogen using methane as the feedstock and energy source.

Energy Transition Solutions

In the energy transition sector, startups focus on clean energy generation, storage, efficiency, and carbon capture technologies that help cities shift away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy sources and net-zero emissions. Expand Power Technologies, for example, pioneers a new solid-state transformer module that drastically reduces transformer size and mass, contributing to a more efficient, reliable, and resilient grid.

Arbon develops a humidity-swing carbon capture technology that reduces energy consumption by utilizing only water throughout the capture and regeneration process. Meanwhile, vsNew deploys an integrated hardware and software platform that allows car dealers to generate accurate battery health reports for electric vehicles (EVs).

UBER-X Future Mobility Startup Challenge

The URBAN-X Future Mobility Startup Challenge, a pitch competition showcasing early-stage mobility solutions that reimagine city mobility, is open to pre-Series A climate tech startups working in mobility or transportation. The competition takes place on Friday, September 27 from 10am to 12pm EDT at Newlab located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Interested founders/startups can apply to participate, and the general public can attend the event via a registration link. Notable alumni of URBAN-X include Dollaride, itselectric, and Lectrium.

Breakfast with URBAN-X

The week kicks off with the Breakfast with URBAN-X event, co-hosted by BMW Group, on Tuesday, September 24, from 10am to 11:30am EDT at the Moonlight Studios.

MINI, an independent brand of the BMW Group, began selling vehicles in the U.S. in 2002 with the introduction of the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Hardtops. URBAN-X offers pre-seed and seed-stage startups hands-on support from URBAN-X experts and access to MINI's global community, providing a unique opportunity for startups to scale their solutions and make a real impact on urban sustainability.
