In a remarkable career shift, Douglas Gorham, a retired Navy broadcast journalist, has found a new passion in digital photography. Gorham, who honed his skills during his training at the Defense Information School in the 1970s, has recently graduated from the Sessions Undergraduate Certificate in Digital Photography program with renewed confidence in his work as a digital storyteller.

Gorham's work at Vandenberg Space Force Base is diverse, ranging from providing his best shots to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department and the head of the intramural sports program, to volunteering his services for various sports events. He has been capturing the spirit of the military personnel stationed on base through his lens, with his work being well-received by all.

Gorham's photography skills have been honed not just through his training, but also through his experiences. He has mastered Lightroom Classic and Photoshop for post-production work, and his writing experience includes stories about Navy personnel and features published in small and medium market newspapers, as well as articles in San Diego Family Magazine. One of his favourite stories he's written was about the Imperial Beach Pier in San Diego, which he approached as a travel writer.

In the Sessions program, Gorham found particular enjoyment and education in Taz Tally's Landscape Photography course. This course covered representational, abstract, and impressionistic photography, as well as macro, high dynamic range, and panorama techniques. Some of Gorham's images from this course were even showcased in the Sessions Student Gallery.

Looking ahead, Gorham plans to continue shooting sporting events at Vandenberg Space Force Base, with a focus on basketball and football intramural sports. He also aims to take photographs to accompany stories for publications and intends to take landscape photographs during his travels. After graduation, Gorham plans to continue practicing and developing his photography skills, ensuring that his journey as a digital storyteller is far from over.
