Equipment under scrutiny by the press
The Press Foundation Baden-Württemberg has launched an exciting new initiative called "About Media. About Communication. About Us." This project, funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation with €478,000, is a citizens' forum aimed at fostering dialogue about the future of media and communication in the state.
The forum will be held in eight cities: Deißlingen, Freiburg, Rheinstetten, Sipplingen, Ulm, Untereisesheim, Weil der Stadt, and Waghäusel. The primary objective of this forum is to engage citizens, media professionals, and experts in discussions about how people want to receive and share information in the future.
The forum will consist of four meetings, scientifically accompanied by a team from the University of Freiburg, including political scientist Uwe Wagschal. The committee will work on the project until the end of the year, and a 64-member committee will be formed from the randomly selected participants.
The focus of the forum will be on several key areas. Firstly, it aims to foster media literacy and understanding of communication processes among the public. Secondly, it offers a space for exchange where citizens can articulate their views about media use and communication practices.
Thirdly, the forum encourages a democratic conversation about the future of information dissemination, including challenges and opportunities posed by digital media. Lastly, it supports the development of a more inclusive and participatory media ecosystem by involving various societal groups.
The forum will also delve into the differences in media usage between young and old, recognising the importance of understanding these generational gaps in shaping the future of media and communication.
Theresia Bauer, CEO of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, explains that the project involves "an engagement with what is produced." The goal is to develop a well-founded recommendation for action for a communication culture that promotes democracy.
Subscribing to the project requires a Staatsanzeiger subscription, and participants will have the opportunity to save articles throughout the forum. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the State Press Conference, the State Association of the German Journalists' Association, and the Association of South West German Newspaper Publishers are all supporting this initiative.
