"Fair labor practices in the movie business: Negotiating respect and collective bargaining"
The film industry is set to gather online on October 11, 2025, for the conference "Working Conditions in the Film Industry 2025". This event, scheduled from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, will be held at the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll, an independent institution of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg.
This conference, organized by Church Service in the Workplace (KDA) in cooperation with several other organizations, promises to be a valuable platform for filmmakers, industry professionals, union members, media professionals, and interested individuals alike.
The day will feature presentations and workshops designed to address key issues in the industry. Christine von Fragstein (Fair Play Film and Culture c/o) will demonstrate the application of the Respect Code Film, a significant initiative for promoting fair and respectful working conditions.
Maximilian Höhnle (Film Association Southwest) will delve into the importance of collective agreements, providing insights into their role in safeguarding the rights and interests of industry workers.
Dr. Ralph Oliver Graef (GRAEF Lawyers) will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on working conditions, a topic of growing importance in today's digital age.
Oliver Zenglein (Crew United) and Annabell Simon (Crew United) will provide a status report on the current situation in the industry, offering a valuable perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the film industry today.
Three workshops will be conducted throughout the day, focusing on central questions related to the Respect Code Film, fair financing of additional work, and negotiation skills. These interactive sessions aim to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the industry effectively.
The conference will conclude with a plenary session, where the workshop results will be presented, and topics for the in-person conference in 2026 will be discussed.
