Fashion mastermind John Galliano ends his decade-long tenure at Maison Margiela, having supposedly restored his standing.
According to Renzo Rosso, chairman of OTB Group, which owns Maison Margiela, John transformed the brand into the most advanced haute couture house globally. Rosso highlighted the past decade of intense work, remarkable shows, fascinating installations, and stunningly beautiful products that laid the groundwork for future success.
Galliano thanked Rosso for giving him a second chance, saying, "I am still making amends, and I will never stop dreaming." Galliano was shrouded in scandal in 2011 for making discriminatory remarks in a Paris bar, which led to his departure from the world of fashion.
Galliano expressed his gratitude for this safe haven to create and Rosso's unwavering support in a statement. He made his runway comeback with Maison Margiela in January 2015, presenting a small couture collection to an elite audience of approximately 100 in London. This marked the beginning of a resurgence for the extravagant designer, who lost his position at Christian Dior after being caught on video making those discriminatory remarks.
Givenchy initially hired Galliano as a young head designer in 1995, and Christian Dior brought him on as creative director the following year. For 15 years, his fame grew with captivating runway shows.
Galliano's return to the fashion world with Maison Margiela was a testament to his unique fashion sense and style, further elevating the brand's status as a global leader in advanced haute couture. His comeback collection, showcased in 2015, was a blend of his signature flair and the brand's renowned minimalist aesthetic.
