Forest and mountain associations intensifying joint efforts for environmental conservation
The SGV BNE Regional Centre in Arnsberg and the State Forestry and Timber Office of North Rhine-Westphalia have joined forces to promote sustainable action in nature through educational and practical initiatives.
This collaboration seeks to raise awareness about sustainable forest management and environmental conservation, integrating ecological knowledge with community engagement. By combining the State Forestry and Timber Office’s expertise in forest ecosystems and sustainable timber use with the SGV BNE Regional Centre's educational resources and outreach programs, the partnership aims to encourage responsible behavior towards natural resources.
The joint effort centers on education and community involvement to promote sustainable interactions with natural environments. This includes organizing workshops, informational events, and hands-on activities that help individuals and groups understand the importance of protecting forests and biodiversity, fostering a sense of stewardship and sustainable practices in daily life.
Thomas Gemke, the President of the Sauerland Mountain Association, emphasised the SGV's long-standing concern for nature conservation. He added that the qualification of young people is a special concern of the SGV BNE Regional Centre. To this end, an educational module on "Sustainable Forestry" is to be created to enable people in the region to deal with this topic in a reflected manner.
The cooperation also includes the support of forester Marvin Eikmeier, who will focus on the regional centre's forest-related educational offerings, and Edgar Ruether, the former head of the Soest-Sauerland Regional Forestry Office, who expressed his pleasure at supporting the BNE Regional Centre in Arnsberg and enhancing its educational offerings.
The goal of this partnership aligns with the SGV BNE Regional Centre's mission of qualifying young people to shape a livable future, with an emphasis on implementing nature, environmental, and climate protection in schools. By empowering people of all ages to take self-responsible and communal action to change various aspects of societal coexistence, the cooperation aims to prepare them for the future.
