Stefan Raab's Eurovision goal is crystal clear: nothing less than the top spot. With names like Nicole, Lena, and Feuerschwanz in the mix, it's intriguing to ponder if this dream could become a reality. But predictions are tricky, especially 10 years in the future. We're talking about the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, happening in Basel in mid-May 2025.

Rewind to the Preliminary Round

The German preliminary round was packed with promising contestants, each vying for a chance to represent the country. Raab, known for his comeback in the ESC, assembled a competent jury: Max Mutzke from the ESC Hall of Fame, Yvonne Catterfeld with TVOG jury experience, and Elton, an expert in his field. Only the final night would let the audience decide with their votes. Until then, the jury, led by Raab, held the reins.

The jury had plenty to evaluate, with some strong performances and others that missed the mark. Fannie from Berlin spit some swift raps, while Chase, the singing barista from Hamburg, bewitched audiences with her unique esoteric style. Equa-Tu brought a vintage feel with his eccentric show, but Enny-Mae x Paradigm left a bitter taste with their performance. Despite the media's high hopes, none of these five acts could live up to the hype.

Seven Contenders Emerge

The semi-finals narrowed the competition down to seven acts. Julika from Düsseldorf impressed with her powerful rendition of Leona Lewis' "Run," showcasing her impressive range. Benjamin Braatz from Hagen, who has vintage fashion aesthetic and a Beatles-inspired song, was admired by the jury. Jonathan Henrich, son of a renowned comedian, charmed with his captivating piano melodies and vocal performance.

Cage from Cologne cozied up to the jury with his heartfelt rendition of a ballad, making both the jury and the audience stand up. Abor & Tynna from Vienna delivered an entertaining performance of Adele's "Skyfall," while Cosby from Munich performed a jazz-infused tune that resonated with the crowd.

In an unexpected twist, Feuerschwanz, the "Ritter Rost" of Wacken-style music, demonstrated their metal prowess with a unique take on "Dragostea Din Tei." Their impressive performance left a lasting impression on the jury.

As the competition continues, only time will tell who will secure one of the coveted spots in Basel, representing Germany at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. Stay tuned!
