Government Updates: Key Points from Today's Press Information Bureau (12-09-2025)
In a significant move towards gender equality in technology and innovation, a national conference is set to take place in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on 14-15 September 2025. The conference, organised by the Committee on Empowerment of Women, carries the theme "Empowering Women to Face Challenges of Emerging Technologies."
This marks the first national-level conference of its kind, reinforcing the role of legislatures in mainstreaming gender equality through policy instruments like Gender Responsive Budgeting. The event will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla.
The conference aims to discuss strategies for bridging the gender digital divide, increasing women's participation in STEM fields, ensuring digital safety, and fostering women entrepreneurship & innovation. Discussions will also cover opportunities and risks associated with AI, ML, Blockchain, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, and Cybersecurity.
In addition to the discussions, the conference will feature special sessions for an exhibition and souvenir release, as well as a valedictory session addressed by senior leaders on 15 September 2025.
On a more practical note, the conference aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, ensuring that women are not only participants but also leaders in technology and innovation. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) have planned a collaboration in Begusarai District, Bihar, to train rural women known as Jeevika Didis from self-help groups in garment manufacturing, machinery operation, and quality control.
This initiative empowers rural women by linking skill training with direct jobs, aiming to create over 750 jobs, mostly for women, at ABFRL's new apparel manufacturing unit. The effort supports inclusive growth in Bihar's textile sector and is backed by government and industry leaders.
The conference underscores the commitment to empower women in technology and innovation, providing them with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital age. By fostering women entrepreneurship and ensuring digital safety, the conference aims to bridge the gender digital divide and create a more equitable future for all.
