GVS Slams DUH's Parking Fee Hike, 'Brotknopf' Abolition Plan

The Association of Crafts and Entrepreneurs of Saarland (GVS) has criticized the German Environmental Aid's (DUH) recent demands for increased parking fees and the abolition of the 'Brotknopf' (free short-term parking) in several Saarland cities. The GVS argues that these measures could harm small businesses and service providers.

The GVS, led by chairman Timo Lehberger, has raised concerns about the DUH's proposal for a 'socially just transport transition'. The association believes that the environmental group has not adequately considered the impact on small businesses and service providers in their demands.

The GVS has called on cities and communities to carefully consider the consequences before raising parking fees. They also urge local authorities to engage in discussions with entrepreneur associations before implementing any changes. The association advocates for customer-friendly mobility concepts, such as digital parking guidance systems, park-and-ride offers, and free short-term parking zones, to support local businesses and shoppers.

The GVS opposes the DUH's demands, warning against a one-sided focus on environmental interests at the expense of economic concerns. They emphasize the importance of the 'Brotknopf' for revitalizing city centers and enabling quick, convenient local shopping. The association continues to promote balanced mobility solutions that support both environmental goals and the local economy.
