Discovering a passion beyond your 30s can be challenging, but it's not impossible. Here's your chance to reignite the spark.

"Individuals who switched professions report increased joy and contentment"

"Chase a job you enjoy, and you'll never regret the days you work." - Words often attributed to Confucius, hold a ring of truth for individuals seeking their life's purpose, not just those new to the professional world.

Struggling to Pick a Path

Psychologist Aigul Kalieva believes that when people connect deeply with themselves, they can easily answer questions regarding their identity, not just professionally, but also spiritually. Yet, Kalieva believes that it's only around the age of 30 that people truly understand their desires and passions.

"Seventeen-year-old teenagers are still discovering themselves, undergoing physical and emotional transformations, making it challenging for them to choose a lifelong career, which is completely normal," Aigul explained. She noted that after 30, it's difficult to change professions drastically, as we have accumulated experience, achieved goals, and have plans for the future.

"It's hard to give up on the progress we've made, as doing so requires a significant investment of time, effort, and resources. People often doubt whether they can succeed in another profession that they find attractive, but uncertain about the future, making it difficult to let go of external accomplishments," she added.

Goin' from Accountant to Stand-up

Aina Musina, 38

Aina Musina started her professional journey as a croupier in a casino during college, then moved on to work as an accountant after graduation. Musina chose her profession based on relevance and stable income, but her heart wasn't in it.

"It was a job to make ends meet, not a passion. I didn't enjoy it, but I'm grateful for it because it provided for me, even during the hardest times," Aina shared.

Aina left her profession when she had already found alternative ways to financially support herself.

"Starting your personal journey, leaving all the past behind, is easy when you're young. You're not afraid; only your own needs matter. But as you get older with responsibilities, it becomes harder. Yet, you mustn't be afraid of change if it aligns with your inner passions," she advised.

Parallel to her main work, Aina started doing stand-up comedy, attending open mic nights, eventually migrating to night performances, combining them easily with her day job. However, as performances became more frequent, the balance began to tip, culminating in sleepless nights and demanding work schedules. Eventually, she made the decision to close one chapter and open another.

Musina's self-discovery process resulted in her becoming much happier, finding fulfillment in what she does, even during periods of sleep deprivation and overwork, demonstrating that passion can fuel one through challenges.

"Believe in yourself, do something about it, and don't hesitate to make changes in your life," encouraged Aina Musina.

From English Teacher to Actor

Eugene Ignatov, 29

Eugene Ignatov worked in various office roles for several years, as a graduate of English translator. In 2017, he started teaching English to children, ultimately enrolling in a two-year acting course at ARTishOK, where he serves as an active actor.

Ignatov initially had no dreams of becoming an actor; he had other aspirations. Yet, he found himself in a field that resonated with him.

"The play 'Uyat' pushed me to explore this new terrain, to become an actor, and perform in the theater," he emphasized. "I enrolled in ARTiSHOK theater, hoping to learn and grow, little knowing the financial struggles and lack of support from family and loved ones I would encounter."

Ignatov's life has drastically changed. Although his previous experiences benefit him in his current role, the transition wasn't easy.

"The theater taught me to confront my own questions, helping me understand myself and my true desires better," concluded Eugene Ignatov.

Office Manager to Photographer

Karina Gibadullina, 32

Karina Gibadullina worked her way up in various office roles, but found her career's monotony slowly unbearable. She decided to try photography, working freelance while still maintaining her office job until she could transition fully.

"I was scared but felt a sudden courage that overcame my fear. I decided to leave my job and try freelancing. The transition was difficult at first, but I've grown to love it," said Karina.

Karina advises individuals seeking a career change to carefully consider their motivations, take courses, and, if possible, maintain their day job until they can be sure their freelance career is stable and fulfilling.

"I've been freelancing for three years, and I've never stopped learning. Learning is crucial for growth, so embrace new knowledge with enthusiasm," concluded Karina Gibadullina.

While it may seem daunting, career change is possible, even for those who have built significant portions of their lives around one career. With self-awareness, courage, and adaptability, you too can find your passion.
