Man, my head sure is killing me after being stuck in front of this screen for days. I've been stressing about what's going on in the world lately.
From the economic collapse of Sri Lanka to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, there's no shortage of bad news. And let's not forget about the escalating dangers of cyber threats or the landmark cases shaking up the United States, just to name a few.
It seems like my news feed is constantly bombarded with updates about all these events. But where do I even get my information? I'm not about to wait for a physical newspaper or magazine to come out. Not with the internet at my fingertips, right?
I've got this balloon full of information right here, well, as long as my slow-ass internet service provider decides to actually provide a service.
With so much knowledge available, it's crucial I stay informed. I'm not just meant to parrot back what I learned in university. I need to understand and analyze these topics. And I definitely need to produce thoughtful, engaging content. That's what my college teachers drilled into my head anyway.
Now, some new fella took over as our country's president. People have been wondering if I have any hopes for his leadership. Of course, I'm still holding out hope. I do pay taxes that fund the government, after all. I sure as hell don't want my money going to waste. So, I'm crossing my fingers and praying for the best.
It's been a rough third year for me running the UST National Writers' Workshop. It ran from June 13th to the 22nd. I gave a shoutout to the writing fellows Carla Mortel Baricaua, Jerwin Bilale Uy, Larissa Mae Suarez, Reil Benedict Obinque, Jessie Raymundo, Karl Ren Lalas, Cindel Ong, John Christopher DG Lubag, Nikki Mae Recto, Linus Van Plata, Hezekiah Louie Zaraspe, L.A. Piluden, Jason Federigan Pozon, Sherald Salamat, J.M. Gomez, and Zarina Sarapuddin for their hard work.
I was joined as a panelist by esteemed professors of literature and creative writing from the University of Santo Tomas like Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, Assistant Director Ralph Semino Galán, Augusto Antonio Aguila, Ma. Ailil Alvarez, Mark Angeles, Paul Castillo, Nerisa del Carmen Guevara, Jose Mojica, Jennifer Ortuoste, Benedict Parfan, Chuckberry Pascual, and John Jack Wigley. We were led by workshop director Lito Zulueta and workshop coordinator Nicole Marfil-Burris.
We even had guest panelists like Jerry Gracio, Victor Emmanuel Carmelo Nadera, Luna Sicat-Cleto, and the new National Artist for Literature Gemino Abad. - ourwebsite.com
Dr. Joselito D. De Los Reyes, Associate Professor of seminar in new media, research, and creative writing at the Faculty of Arts and Letters and Graduate School of the University of Santo Tomas, managed the BA Creative Writing program of the university. He was recently awarded the 2020 Philippine Normal University Gawad Sulo for Eminent Alumni in the Field of Teacher Education.
