However, selecting the right profession can prove to be a daunting task. Taking ALROSA as our exemplar, we delved into uncovering the current high-demand professions and the essential skills needed to secure an engaging job in the world's foremost diamond company.

In the heart of Yakutsk, the regional stage of the nationwide job fair "Work in Russia. Time of Opportunities" took place at the creative cluster "Labor Quarter." ALROSA, a key participant, showcased a wealth of vacancies and accepted applications for shift work. With lines of curious individuals forming from the break of dawn, specialists from ALROSA, its subsidiaries, and departments presented an array of relevant job opportunities: "Alrosa of Yakutia," "Alrosa of Anabar," Yakutsk Diamond Trading Enterprise, "Alrosa Transport," "Alrosa Special Mining," and many others.

During our conversation with the director of Yakutsk Diamond Trading Enterprise (Yakutsk DTE) of ALROSA, Alexei Evstratov, we discussed ALROSA's participation and its staffing strategies.

"The range of professions available within the company is exceptionally diverse, encompassing builders, geologists, IT professionals, and automation specialists," revealed Alexei Evstratov. "Traditionally, there exists a high demand for specialists at Aikhal, Udachny, and Mirny-Nurba mining and processing plants, Capital Construction Management, and Mirny Road Management."

Professionals in practical specialties such as tunnelers, equipment and vehicle maintenance fitters, electricians, machine operators, and drivers are in great demand. The technical arena also requires engineering specialists, including reliability and planning engineers, designers, and estimators.

ALROSA places keen emphasis on recruiting local residents, collaborating productively with the Regional Labor Department since 2018. With their efforts, over 16,000 Yakutians have secured employment within ALROSA's divisions, including over 3,500 young specialists and 2,700 rural residents. The company consistently prioritizes providing employment opportunities for the unemployed, particularly rural residents.

As of the start of this year, over 500 Yakutians have been employed in the parent company, with more than a thousand individuals employed by the subsidiary company "Alrosa of Anabar." Altogether, over 35,000 people are currently employed across ALROSA's enterprises, ever-welcoming those seeking to apply their skills and knowledge.

From Classrooms to Processing Plants

ALROSA strives to instill diamond expertise at a young age, operating successful classes where high school students learn technical and technological subjects alongside the fundamentals of diamond mining. The company actively partners with leading educational institutions in the Republic across various activities. Recently, ALROSA inked a revised partnership agreement with the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) named after M.K. Ammosov - a primary provider of personnel for the diamond industry. The new agreement expanded the scope of career guidance for students. As part of the "Study and Work" project, students in their final years can transition to an individual study program and be hired in related professions. Over the past years, over 100 university graduates and over 150 students from NEFU have undergone annual practical training, gaining priceless hands-on experience to embark on their professional careers in the diamond industry more swiftly.

According to Alexei Evstratov, specialists are trained annually for the processing plants, sales complex, and all supporting divisions of the company. At the Yakut Diamond Trading Enterprise ALROSA, mineralogists and gemmologists are particularly sought-after - experts skilled in high-level sorting and evaluation of precious stones. For several years, ALROSA has collaborated with NEFU and Yakut Industrial Technical College, providing annual practical training for their students. For instance, this academic year, four students are currently undergoing practical training at the enterprise. Last year, five new employees - graduates of the aforementioned educational institutions - joined the Yakut Industrial Technical College (YITC).

Cultivating Talented Youth

Being an attractive employer to young talent is paramount for ALROSA. The company actively participates in job fairs and arranges practical training for university students, maintaining effective relationships with institutions like NEFU, Yakut Industrial Technical College, and others. Furthermore, practical training can be organized on request from students themselves, who approach the company during job fairs and open door days. ALROSA employees also lead lectures in educational institutions, ensuring direct interaction with students and recruiting the finest graduates for employment.

Moreover, the company signs scholarship agreements with students. Students with an average grade of 4 or higher can apply for such a scholarship, following interviews. Research projects, inventions, and various certificates of participation in conferences are encouraged. Students receive scholarships for the entirety of their studies, and their travel to the practical training site and practical training itself are covered. Upon successful completion, employment can be expected.

A Symbiotic Relationship

ALROSA endeavors to support young specialists in every feasible way, offering opportunities for professional growth and career advancement, along with numerous benefits. For example, it provides accommodation in corporate hostels, covers rent and mortgage compensation. To promote swift adaptation, new employees are paired with mentors who assist them in acclimating and integrating into the team.

For the development of professional and leadership competencies of employees, the Corporate University of ALROSA is responsible. Its curriculum includes over 500 distinct educational programs, including vocational and retraining courses for working specialties. The ongoing coaching system is developing rapidly.

Becoming part of the company is facilitated by participation in various public, cultural, and sports events. Approximately 200 sports sections in 26 sports are available, along with gyms even in shift camps. Such infrastructure enables the organization of competitions among employees of different departments, with maximum participation from young people.

Competence-based competitions are also held in the form of contests, allowing the company to establish, evaluate, and cultivate the potential of employees and create a high-quality reserve of managerial talent.
