Judi Segall, an accomplished professional in the field of conflict management and ombuds work, has been appointed as the new ombudsperson at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Segall brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served for 17 years as the university ombudsman and director of the Stony Brook Ombuds Office. In this capacity, she conducted informal consultations with administrators and managers to raise awareness of systemic problems, led conflict management training courses, and outreach programs for faculty, students, and staff.

Segall's credentials include a Master's in Social Work from Stony Brook University and a BA in History from the State University of New York at Oswego. She was awarded certification from the Center for Mediation in Law in 2005 and became a certified organizational ombudsman practitioner in 2011.

She served as president of the International Ombudsman Association and the University and College Ombuds Association. Her previous work also includes serving as executive assistant to Stony Brook's vice president for student affairs from 1989 to 1997.
