Nothing works without a printer in the BAföG office in MV - Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Digitizes BAföG Applications for Thousands of Students

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, thousands of students are submitting their common app for BAföG for the new academic year, with the majority doing so electronically. This follows a trend seen in other federal states like Saxony-Anhalt and Hesse, which have already digitised their app store processes. Currently, over 8,000 students in the state apply for BAföG each year, representing more than a quarter of all students.

BAföG, the Federal Training Assistance Act, provides students with up to 992 euros per month for living expenses, with half typically required to be repaid after graduation. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the application process has been mostly digitised, but documents submitted electronically still need to be printed out and assigned to paper files due to the lack of a revision-proof file storage system or an e-file system in BAföG offices. The state government aims to rectify this by introducing an electronic file system by the end of 2029, as part of the BAföG21 procedure development.

The digitalisation of the BAföG application process in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is expected to save time and eliminate the need for printing and filing documents. With the planned introduction of an electronic file system by the end of 2029, the process is set to become more efficient, benefiting the thousands of students who rely on BAföG for financial support.
