Over 66,000 applicants have submitted their job applications at Almaty's Employment Center.

Laid-Off Almaty Residents Flood Employment Center in Lockdown

In the throes of lockdown, the masses of Almaty job seekers flocking to the city's Employment Center nearly doubled. A year ago, the numbers stood firm at 48,000, but by August 2020, a staggering 66,000 people were on the hunt for work, as reported by Almaty.tv.

The Employment Center caters to around 200 individuals daily, all striving to secure employment. Recruitment for jobs in the upcoming year appears to be ongoing, according to specialists.

To join the program, simply register on the Employment Center's website. The initiative serves as a win-win scenario for both job seekers and businesses: companies share part of the salary expenses, while the state picks up the remaining tab.

As Adilet Zhanaev, department head at the city's Employment Center, explained, "For public works and youth practice, there's a 100% payment, but for social workplaces, there's a subsidy for employers. They set the salary, and the state covers 35%."

Perizat Masykhan sought assistance at the Employment Center in 2019 through the "Enbek" youth practice program. Post-internship, she snagged a managerial role in the department aiding job seekers. After a year in the position, she's still helping citizens navigate the job market.

In her own words, "After graduating from college as a programming technician in 2019, I landed here for practice. After three months, they recruited me as a specialist supporting job seekers. I'm incredibly grateful; now, I've got a steady gig."

Almaty currently implements two employment programs concurrently: the state program, "Enbek" (2017-2021), and "Roadmap for Employment 2020." Since the inception of 2020, a whopping 66,000 citizens have applied to the city's Employment Center. Of these, around 25,000 secured permanent positions, while over 17,000 secured temporary ones.

The "Enbek" State Program

The "Enbek" program aims to bolster productive employment and mass entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan. It encompasses multiple initiatives such as training programs, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and job placement services. The program targets job creation, primarily in manufacturing and other sectors, by providing subsidies and guarantees for SMEs, alongside training and education components to boost employability.

Roadmap for Employment 2020

Whilst specifics about the "Roadmap for Employment 2020" remain scant, the program likely formed part of the broader national strategies for fostering employment around that time.

Employment Initiatives in Almaty

Almaty is among Kazakhstan's regions with the highest number of job vacancies. Key sectors exhibiting a strong demand for workers include education, healthcare, industry, construction, and energy. Initiatives like Enbek and other employment programs are invaluable in addressing these labor market needs.

The labor market in Kazakhstan is vast and intricate, with a substantial number of job vacancies predicted in 2025, spanning various sectors. The utilization of online platforms like Enbek.kz for employment services showcases a modern approach to job placement and employment services.

  1. Many of the Almaty residents seeking work at the Employment Center are likely interested in education and self-development programs to increase their chances in the job market as they pursue career development opportunities.
  2. Individuals who secure temporary jobs through the city's Employment Center may find it beneficial to further their career development by participating in continuing education and self-development programs, which can enhance their skills and make them more competent in the job search.
