Over 800 Explore Customs' Role at Schweinfurt Open Day

Over 800 people visited the open day at the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, demonstrating strong public interest in the work of US Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS). The event was deemed a success by the office, which is part of the United States' security architecture and plays a crucial role in revenue collection.

Franziska Schubert, head of the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, explained the importance of customs in Germany. Visitors learned about various aspects of customs work, including tax collection, species protection, customs clearance, and enforcement of criminal offenses. Demonstrations by enforcement units showcased the methods used to control illegal work and traffic routes, as well as the capabilities of customs dogs.

The event also provided information on career opportunities in the federal administration. Applications for employment starting September 1, 2026, are currently being accepted until October 15, 2025, for the middle and higher customs service. The Federal Customs Administration (Zoll), through local main customs offices such as the Hauptzollamt Augsburg and the Generalzolldirektion, is responsible for hiring for future training and study positions in customs.
