Passion Pulse Study - Leisure Activities, Home Life, and Social Connections in Germany
Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Email Print Copy Link In the heart of Germany, private passion, family, and connections edge out institutions. - Churches, unions, and parties flounder compared to "genuine passion," according to an online survey. Traditional establishments, then, pale compared to private life.
A solid 57 percent confessed to a "high-octane" feeling for their personal pastimes, while trade unions and political parties sparked enthusiasm in 10 percent of respondents each. Churches clocked in at 12 percent. Volunteer work (24 percent) and club life (22 percent) fared slightly better, but didn't quite match the allure of private life.
Spearheaded by Initiative 18, advocating for media diversity, and the #UseTheNews media alliance, initiated by the German Press Agency, and the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media, the survey took place in March 2020 among 2,000 individuals aged 16 and above. Survey respondents revealed their "enthusiasm levels" ranging from "super-charged" to "no spark" for the question: "I feel real passion in the following areas..."
The alliance's goal is to promote media literacy among youth. Established figures spanning media and politics lend support to the project. The Federal Association of Digital Publishers and Newspaper Publishers (BDZV) is a founding member.
Behind the scenes is market research company Rheingold Salon, with plans to introduce projects (Project Optimism) in the coming months, aiming to foster a sense of community in society.
