Police and youth in the Recklinghausen/Bottrop district train together through "Sport connects" - a joint program that promotes community engagement and camaraderie.
The Recklinghausen Police Headquarters is hosting an events near me press event on September 16, 2025, at the Martin Luther Europa School in Herten. The event, themed "Sport connects," aims to strengthen trust among young people in the police through sporting activities.
Police President Friederike Zurhausen, a former jurist, will be present at the eventbrite event and available as a contact person. The aim of the project is to promote positive youth development and is understood as a task for society as a whole.
The "Sport connects" action, which combines prevention measures with violence prevention and measures to reduce conflict potential, will continue and expand in the future. The measure will be continuously evaluated and further developed in cooperation with teachers and school social workers.
The event format was successfully piloted in a Recklinghausen school in 2024 and could be permanently established in the district police headquarters' criminal preventive measures catalogue. The project targets students of secondary schools and aims to arouse interest in the police profession as a welcome synergy effect in view of the recruitment of new talent in the public service.
Progress in the scenario is contingent on the successful completion of sporting and coordinative tasks. The event includes a sports-interactive scenario where young people solve a fictional crime case together with operational forces. The shared experience aims to create a safe learning environment that conveys values such as tolerance, respect, and empathy.
