Police recruitment ceremony in the Recklinghausen/Bottrop district: 29 new officers begin their training at the police vocational school
In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), a unique police officer training program has been initiated at the Police Headquarters in Recklinghausen. This program, known as the "NEXT LEVEL Police," aims to attract courageous, motivated individuals with a strong sense of responsibility and character.
The program is part of a statewide initiative, and it offers access to police service without the traditional Fach-Abitur. Instead, students are pursuing a Fachhochschulabschluss in "Economics and Administration with a focus on Police Service" at the Fachoberschule Police, which started operations in 2022 with 11 vocational schools.
The first year of the program involves an alternation between school training and police internships. The second year is purely academic. This structure provides students with a comprehensive education in police service, coupled with practical experience, giving them a significant head start over students who switch directly to university after Abitur.
The program has been well-received, with around 2,500 young people applying for around 350 places for the first year. On August 27, 2022, Police President Friederike Zurhausen swore in 29 new students at the Kuniberg-Kolleg in Recklinghausen.
