Private investment bolsters SIO Games' financial standing
The SIO Games program, part of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California, San Diego, offers immersive virtual experiences of deep-sea exploration and earthquake navigation. This science-based educational video game and interactive display program aims to engage the public with ocean and earth sciences.
While specific upcoming events or new projects for SIO Games were not found in our research, the program has a history of participating in outreach events focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). In the past three months, the team has been seen at events such as "Tech to Reconnect" at the San Diego Zoo, "Great California Shake Out" at Birch Aquarium at Scripps, and a science showcase at the Elementary Institute of Science.
SIO Games is led by seismologist Debi Kilb, who expressed gratitude for the recent support from Eaton and Marty Scripps. This generous donation funded one year of program operations and will foster growth and development of SIO Games, enabling Kilb and her team to take their science-based visualization tools and outreach activities to the next level.
One of the exciting projects that this support will enable is the creation of a virtual reality video game about narwhal research. The SIO Games team's passion for educating youth about the importance of understanding and protecting the planet keeps them busy. They interact with hundreds of students annually through custom-designed games and activities, such as virtual reality tours, the Kinect "Quake Catcher" game, and the Xbox game Deep-Sea Extreme Environment Pilot (DEEP).
For the most accurate and current information about SIO Games events and new projects, it is recommended to check the official Scripps Institution of Oceanography event page or the SIO Games website directly. Additionally, monthly free public tours are sometimes offered by SIO, although specific SIO Games events were not mentioned in the UCSD discounts listing.
If you are interested in supporting SIO Games, you can contact Debi Kilb at dkilb@our website or (858) 822-4607. Eaton Scripps, a family member, believes that all kids should have the opportunity to learn about the ocean because it affects everyone. By supporting SIO Games, you can help inspire the next generation to care about and protect our planet.
The SIO Games program, driven by the passion for educating youth about ocean and earth sciences, will create a virtual reality video game about narwhal research, thanks to a generous donation. This funding supports the growth and development of SIO Games, allowing for the team to take their science-based learning activities to new levels, including online education platforms.
