Raising a Basic Meeting Room to a Revamped Collaborative Innovation Center through AV over IP Technology

The Caldwell County School System in North Carolina has recently transformed its meeting room into a hub of innovation and collaboration, thanks to the installation of a state-of-the-art audiovisual (AV) system. This modern setup, featuring Extron's NAV Pro AV over IP system, offers high-quality video transmission, seamless integration with third-party control systems, and secure and flexible content distribution.

The room is equipped with eight AV-equipped workstations, each with a unique color ID signified by the color of the buttons on its touchpanel user interface. Each workstation is equipped with a PC, NAV encoder, NAV scaling decoder, and TouchLink Pro touchpanel. Multicolor LED light strips are installed to indicate the originating workstation of the content on each display.

The bottom backlight shows the workstation's own color ID, while the top backlight shows the color ID of the supplying workstation. This setup allows each workstation to independently originate and display AV content, which is shareable to the other workstations and to the Internet.

The system's design is simplified due to ShareLink's built-in switcher for transferring between wired and wireless content sharing. This feature ensures smooth transitions during presentations and collaborative sessions.

The room's eight displays are spaced equidistant and are positioned on opposite walls, making them ideal for teaching sessions and presentations. For larger events such as board meetings and community forums, two 86-inch touchscreens and two 98-inch displays are used.

The NAV Pro AV over IP 1 Gbps network links all displays to all content origination workstations, ensuring that any source can be shown on any or all of the displays. This flexible setup allows for efficient collaboration and presentation, whether in-person or virtual.

The district's in-house IT/AV team designed, installed, programmed, and operates the boardroom AV system. The AV system operates continuously with minimal maintenance, with planned upgrades and operator interface changes being the only maintenance performed.

The system's key benefits include high-quality video transmission, integration with third-party control systems, scalable network design, secure and reliable system operation, and support for automation. These features translate into a modernized meeting room environment that improves AV performance, simplifies control, enables secure and flexible content distribution, and boosts collaboration efficiency.

In addition, the system easily integrates with collaboration platforms and control panels, such as Microsoft Teams Rooms or Logitech Tap, providing a unified user interface for meetings. The AV system has impressed attendees from other North Carolina school districts and neighboring states.

With this transformation, the Caldwell County School System has created a dynamic, collaborative space that supports the needs of its diverse community. The school system's boardroom is now a shining example of the power of technology to enhance educational and professional experiences.
