Recognition of Distinguished Academic Achievements in the 2018-19 Academic Year Held at Park University's Honors Ceremony
The Park University Honors Convocation, held on April 24, 2019, in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's Parkville Campus, celebrated the achievements of its students and faculty.
The event was a shining testament to the university's commitment to recognising exemplary leadership, academic achievement, and active involvement in campus activities. Among the honourees were Eric Haas and Iroda Narzullaeva, who received the Outstanding Parkite Award.
Haas, a senior criminal justice administration/corrections major, has been a peer mentor in the Park Global Warrior Center for three years and has served as president of the Park ROTC Student Organization. He also serves as a platoon leader for the Pony Express ROTC Battalion and has received the Army Commendation Medal and four Army Achievement Medals. Narzullaeva, a senior information and computer science/software engineering major, boasts a 3.97 GPA and was named a Presidential Scholar in both 2018-19 and 2017-18. She has served as the Park Student Government Association vice president and as a resident assistant.
Narzullaeva was also recognised with the Park Servant Leader of the Year award at last year's Howell Awards. This award is typically given to students who demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, and active involvement in campus activities, embodying the spirit and values of the university.
Jeff Kimmons, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, received the J.L. Zwingle Award, an honour bestowed upon an outstanding faculty member as voted by the student body. The Distinguished Humanities Faculty Award was given to Andrea Lee, Ph.D., assistant professor of art, chair of the Department of Art and Design, and director of the Campanella Gallery. Manuchair Ebadi, Ph.D., a 1960 Park graduate, established the Distinguished Humanities Faculty Award in honour of Woodbridge O. Johnson, Ph.D.
Erica Jansen, adjunct instructor of English, received the Provost's Award for Teaching Excellence, and Amy Mecklenburg-Faenger, Ph.D., associate professor of English, received the Excellence in Academic Advising Award. Colin McMahon, a senior graphic design major, was a recipient of the Louisa Davidson Hinde / Carolyn Hinde Zarkaryan Memorial Award. Aaliyah Brown, a December 2018 graduate and current Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership student, also received this award.
Jeff Smith, associate professor of graphic design, received the President's Award for Teaching Excellence. These accolades serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and faculty at Park University.
For precise criteria and the list of 2018-2019 recipients, I recommend checking Park University’s official website, contacting their student affairs office, or reviewing university archives or newsletters from that academic year.
