The Designers in Residence scholarship program is set to return for its next round, offering aspiring designers from around the world an opportunity to work on a personal project in Pforzheim, Germany.

Hosted by Pforzheim University's Faculty of Design, the program provides scholars with access to workshops, coworking areas, and equipment from the EMMA creative center and participating partners. Scholars will also receive free accommodation, financial support, and a material cost subsidy during their stay in Pforzheim from April to June 2024.

The selection process for the Designers in Residence program will be overseen by a panel of experts, including jewelry artist Jiro Kamata, industrial designer Romin Heide, fashion designer Louise Bennetts, and others. Bennetts, who is also a head of research and development at Reweave and a lecturer at the Royal College of Arts, will participate in the selection process for the second time.

The results of the scholars' work will be presented in an exhibition at the EMMA creative center in Pforzheim. Ulrich E. Haag, head of events & sponsorship at Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw, notes that the Designers in Residence scholarship program has a lasting impact on the city, positioning it in an international design context and fostering global designer exchange.

Scholars will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with jury members and professors at Pforzheim University. Almut Benkert, head of the creative economy department at the Pforzheim Economic Development and Marketing Agency, states that the program aims to provide design talent with time for significant work relevant to their future.

There are three scholarships available for the program, and the application deadline is November 15, 2023. The scholarship is open to international designers in the fields of jewelry, fashion, accessories, industrial, communication design, and other design disciplines.

While a specific "Designers in Residence scholarship program 2024" could not be found in current search results, there are several contemporary artist residency programs and scholarships with somewhat related features. For example, the Serendipity Arts Residency 2025 in New Delhi offers furnished accommodation, studio space, allowance covering meals, a production grant for materials, and network-building opportunities.
