Return to 2023: A New Beginning
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music welcomed students back to the Schoenberg Music Building with a banner year in mind, as evidenced by the excitement that surrounded a recent In-N-Out event in North Dickson Court. The special lunch was a highlight for students, with the School of Music's own music majors being the envy of their peers across the university.
The event was organised by the Office of Student Affairs, providing students with an opportunity to catch up and network over delicious In-N-Out burgers. The School of Music's student advisory board, faculty, and staff were all present, adding to the community spirit of the occasion.
The School of Music's growth was evident, as the courtyard was filled with more students than ever before. The gathering was a great opportunity for students to connect and share their enthusiasm for music. After the breakout sessions, everyone gathered once more in the courtyard to enjoy pizza and continue their conversations.
The School of Music is expanding in other ways too. This fall, the School launched its Music Industry BA as its own interdisciplinary program. While specific details about this program were not available at the time of the event, the School does offer various programs related to music, including summer intensives in the Music Industry. Additionally, they have partnered with Universal Music Group to establish the Berry Gordy Music Industry Scholarship, supporting students interested in the music industry.
The School of Music's new dean, Eileen Strempel, was also in attendance at the welcome event. With state-of-the-art practice rooms due to be completed soon, the School of Music is set to continue its growth and success in the coming year. The event was a promising start to the academic year, filled with music, food, and camaraderie.
