Route safety for school-bound travelers
In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, a significant step towards enhancing traffic safety for first-graders has been initiated. The Infrastructure and Project Company Bergisch Gladbach (IP GL) GmbH, responsible for traffic safety measures in the city, has taken on this task with vigour.
The IP GL recently issued a press release announcing their initiative to equip first-graders with reflective safety vests. This move is part of a larger effort to ensure good visibility in road traffic, especially during the darker season, as emphasized by Nurten Bongard, Senior Communication Manager of the KRÜGER GROUP.
On September 17, 2025, during the European Mobility Week, the official handover of the safety vests will take place at the Paffrath Community Primary School. The ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM on the schoolyard, in the presence of school management, all first-graders, and representatives from IP GL and the KRÜGER GROUP.
The KRÜGER GROUP, a local entity, has donated 1,070 reflective vests for first-graders at municipal primary schools in Bergisch Gladbach. These vests, neon green in colour, will allow children to be recognized much earlier in road traffic, contributing to more safety on the school route.
Willi Schmitz, one of the managing directors of IP GL, underscored the importance of equipping as many first-graders as possible with reflective safety vests. Susanne Heuckmann, principal of the Paffrath Community Primary School, expressed her gratitude for the safety vests, stating they provide additional safety in road traffic for the students who walk to school.
The remaining primary schools will receive their safety vests from GL-Service gGmbH or the police for distribution to the respective entrance classes starting from the 37th week. Unlike the handover ceremony at the Paffrath Community Primary School, the distribution to the other primary schools will not involve a formal ceremony but will be handled by GL-Service gGmbH or the police for distribution.
This initiative by IP GL and the KRÜGER GROUP is intended to give parents and children a good feeling for the start of the day, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for the city's youngest citizens. This year, the funding for the total of 1,070 safety vests was supported by the KRÜGER GROUP from Bergisch Gladbach. As of August 28, 2025, 1,070 schoolchildren enrolled in one of the 20 municipal primary schools in Bergisch Gladbach.
This move by the city and its partners underscores the commitment to the safety and well-being of its residents, particularly its youngest members, as they embark on their educational journey.
