Schools to Undergo Changes from September 1 as Percussed by Children's Ombudsman Lvova-Belova
Maria Lvova-Belova, the Children's Rights Commissioner for the President of Russia, has announced a series of new changes in Russian schools, effective from September 1.
In a significant move, Lvova-Belova announced that schools will introduce a pilot project for behavior assessment. However, the specific regions where this project will be implemented and the subjects that will be affected by this assessment have not been specified.
Another notable change is the temporary replacement of social studies for grades 5-7 with a course on "Our Region's History". Unfortunately, the duration of this replacement has not been disclosed.
In a positive development for student health, medical rooms in schools will be equipped according to new standards, as per Lvova-Belova's announcement. Additionally, schools will have specialized medical sisters starting this academic year.
In terms of testing, control tests, including nationwide check-ups, will occupy no more than 10% of the teaching time for each subject. However, it is unclear whether this limit applies to all subjects or just some.
Parents will be allowed to be present at EGE testing centers, and they will be permitted to monitor the conditions and protect the rights of graduates at these centers.
It's worth noting that, despite reports suggesting the reintroduction of free after-school care in schools, a thorough search has yielded no results providing details about such a program or policy in Russia.
As always, we will continue to monitor developments in Russian education policy and bring you updates as they become available.
